Thanks to its central location, the area of Berlin Mitte offers quite diverse sights and opportunities. One of the core shopping areas of the city is located here, with high quality and up to date boutiques, but you can also encounter fragments of the Medieval Berlin. Many research centers, such as the Charite, as well as universities and ‘Fachhochshule’ can be found in Mitte, opening up to multiple possibilities for cooperation and networking with the scientific community. Young companies are especially attracted by the facilities of BIG/ TIB and Focus Teleport.
Mitte is the perfect place for a culinary trip around the world: between Hackescher Markt, the Gendarmenmarkt and Rosenthaler Platz you can find several locations, often with quite innovative concepts. The waiters at the Austernbank serve delicious fish specialties in the former “Tressorraum” of the Disconto Bank. Brecht’s steakhouse offers a great selection of freshly prepared meat dishes, and a wonderful view of the river Spree. In recent years, vegetarian and vegan alternatives such as the Ga ya ya have become real gastronomic hotspots.
It is quite hard to select the top attractions: the television tower, next to Alexanderplatz, is visually impressive. Starting from the Schlossbrücke, important buildings like the Staatsoper, the Kronprinzenpalais and the Neue Wache line up one next to another. History enthusiasts flow to the Museum Island where art from all over the world and several centuries is collected. Outside the museums, the Lustgarten invites you to a short walk in the green.
